About A Man. About Jo Mulholland. About Joop Mul. About Me!

I think back a lot, lately. It's suddenly gone quiet around me and I think back on the 37 years of wielding the chalk. . .

. . Of Riverstone and floods, Of Maude and roads of dust. Of Bourke and a 25 mile walk-a-thon, in the burning sun. Of Mascot and a happening, exciting time. Of… Continue

Once there was a school........

........They named it Maroubra Bay High School because this high school was situated at Maroubra Bay. When it was built, in 1959 they filled it with students.

For the good times.

"Not everyone's as sentimental as you are (about it)", the teacher, at the art class, said yesterday. I was telling her that, on the way to the coffee machine, in Hazelhurst I crossed paths with a very familiar school uniform, with a boy in it, who gave me a blank look. *Of course*! He may just have been in kindergarten (where I used to go and sometimes help, if a computer was playing up), when I was in my eleventh and last year of teaching at his school. Time goes so quickly. It feels fu… Continue

I have her mannerisms! ("The older you get, the more you look like your mother!")

It's July 28, 2008. On July 28, 1917, in Gouda, The Netherlands, Jacoba Postma, my mother, was born. The fourth of nine children, to the bridge- (and lock-) -keeper, Jan Postma and Betty Schoonens. After a long period of slowly drifting further and further into Alzheimers, she passed away 4 May, 2004. !http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/9539/mampapajcbe7.jpg! When they were young teenagers, she'd b… Continue

Johannes Maria, My Father.

He was born 14 July, 1917, the fourth son of Johannes Stephanus Mul and Gijsberta van Reeden, in Gouda, The Netherlands and named after his father and his aunt. So he is: Johannes Maria. Something which embarrassed him the rest of his life. A sister was born a little less than two year… Continue

Hello Joop. (Feels like I'm talking to myself. I'm so used to being the only Joop around here. Only Joop de Wit comes close and he lives in Newcastle, which is almost three hours driving, north of Sydney.)
The queen's birthday has always been a rallying point here, in Sydney, although, in the eighties it almost died out, even though the receptions, organised by the consulate-general continued and were actually changed to open to all, rather than by invitation only.

(Actually wanted to include the invitation that was sent when the receptions used to be in the consul-general's residence but it's not readily available in my computer.)
This was the previous consul-general, in the Freemasons' Headquarters, where the receptions are held now-a-days.

Funny to see how our Queen is held in honour at the other side of the world! The Dutch heritage is prominent and still very much alive I can see, great pictures!

Graag gedaan. You're welcome and you're right, Joop. Ironically the Dutch community is divided here, in Sydney, in a number of ways, that made me explain what pillarization used to be, in the Netherlands, when we migrated, and left, in 1956. But the good thing was, last weekend that that did not stop the (Dutch)queen's birthday being celebrated and I was in my element. 227 photos of kids and their parents, in orange to upload to the www, in various places!!!!
